The Central Question
What does a Black American owe America, and what does America owe them back?
In 2026 that is not a rhetorical question. It has a concrete, urgent answer being written in real time, not in op-eds, but in departure terminals, lease signings in Medellín, wine cellars in Playa del Carmen, and quiet mornings in Johannesburg. Nine million Americans now live abroad. A growing number of them are Black professionals, credentialed, accomplished, and done.
The Project
What if the American Dream was always the wrong destination?
Blaxit: Not About That Life follows Black Americans who chose to stop striving on America's terms, some from corner offices, some from hospital pharmacy jobs, and built lives defined by sovereignty, ease, and joy. Some left the country. All of them left the lie.
This is the quiet revolution happening among Black professionals right now. The exit is no longer exceptional, and the people making it are not running from failure. They are running toward clarity. The series holds that question open and follows the people living their answer.
The Promise
Work hard enough, achieve enough, assimilate enough, and you will be safe, valued, and free.
That was the oldest American bargain. These subjects took it at its word, met every term, and still arrived somewhere hollow. So they asked a different question: twice as good for what, and for whom?

Nina Foxx
Author, UX research leader, executive coach, yoga instructor, winemaker. Nina is not a detached observer of this story. She is living its tension. Twenty years in corporate America spanning Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and HBO Max, and a parallel life as a published novelist and creative entrepreneur, with a home base in Atlanta and a place in Playa del Carmen.
She is not fully in. She is not fully out. She is the question the series is asking. Not the host of a travel show, but a witness in the James Baldwin tradition, someone whose proximity to the story is the story.

The pilot begins not with departure, but with the question that makes departure possible. We open on Nina at her desk, corporate laptop open, dressed for a meeting she has given a thousand times. She knows this world because she built her life inside it.
